CoPan
The objective of project is to improve the accessibility, comparability, and practical usability of mobility data in the Austrian-Hungarian border region. It also aims to develop coordinated, sustainable cooperation structures among transportation sector stakeholders in the region.
The project addresses the issue that transport planning in border regions often relies on incomplete, outdated, or disparately collected data. This makes it difficult to ensure that transport services, schedules and developments truly reflect the needs of residents, commuters and visitors of the region. CoPan therefore focuses on strengthening cross-border data and knowledge sharing, as well as developing joint planning methods.
A key part of the project is the Mobility Data Forum, which establishes a new, structured framework for professional collaboration. The forum aims to facilitate regular dialogue between stakeholders involved in mobility, transport planning, data management and decision-making. It also provides an opportunity to jointly interpret transport data, harmonise data collection methods, and coordinate development priorities. The significance of the forum lies in its ability to transform professional consultations into long-term cooperation, thereby laying the groundwork for more sustainable mobility planning in the border region based on more accurate data.
The work of the Mobility Data Forum is supported by thematic working groups that examine emerging issues in detail and develop practical proposals to address the mobility challenges of the region. The project also tests new data collection and analysis methods in a designated pilot area, in addition to mapping existing data. The aim is to gain a clearer understanding of public transport, active mobility and cross-border transport connections.
The project will result in the development of recommendations, methodological summaries and practical solutions that can contribute to the better planning of transport services, timetable optimisation and infrastructure development. Thus, CoPan will not only establish a new framework for professional cooperation, but also indirectly improve everyday mobility for people living in the border region.
